Whether you’re a parent wanting to make sure your kids get a quality public education, a family working hard to put food on the table, or a retiree living on a fixed income -- it’s more important than ever to have someone who won't just stand up for you in the Colorado Legislature, but be a champion for our community.

I’m Jennifer Coken. I’m running to represent House District 4 in the Colorado House. As your representative, I will not just cast a vote for progressive policies, but have the experience to push legislation for the good of our families, our community, and our future.
For over two decades, I have been fighting for economic and social justice. As director of the Western Clean Energy Campaign – everyday I fight for renewable energy and energy efficiency and preventing the development of new carbon-emitting coal-fired power plants. As the former Chair of the Democratic Party of Denver, I led the fight in 2008 to turn Colorado blue.
As your representative, I’ll focus on:
Education
· Enhancing our children’s learning achievements and test scores without creating a hardship for taxpayers.
· I want to see our schools return to emphasizing academics over attitudes.
· One of my goals is to see our district’s schools once again setting the standard for education, not trying to measure up to it.
Careers
· Families must be able to do more than survive financially; they must be allowed to prosper.
· It’s time to quit outsourcing good-paying jobs
· It’s time to help businesses that provide good jobs succeed in Northwest Denver and in Colorado.
Clean Energy and the Environment
· Find ways to reduce carbon emissions, increase opportunities for good paying careers in the renewable energy sector
· Provide incentives for homeowners to install solar panels or other new energy technologies and take advantage of energy efficiency technologies.
· As director of the Western Clean Energy Campaign, I fight every day for a cleaner environment.
Healthcare
· No family should ever go without healthcare coverage or have to fight their insurance company for basic coverage, like mammograms.
· Like many of you, I’m counting on President Obama and Congress to fix our healthcare system. If they don’t, or don’t go far enough, I’ll lead the way to fight for healthcare reform in Colorado.
· I’m extremely interested in working on improving health care in our state and conditions for our nurses like limiting hours or nurse-patient ratios.
I’ve spent my life fighting for economic and social justice and have spent my career organizing communities, bringing broad and diverse voices together, and finding workable solutions that enhance our quality of life and our future. I’m excited serving you, the people of House District 4. I want to work with you and for you to make our neighborhood even better than it already is.
Together we WILL move Denver forward.
